What You Need to Know About the James Hardie 15-year Finish Warranty

James Hardie

James Hardie is the leading manufacturer of fiber cement siding. They offer a huge variety of premium products. No matter what kind of home you have, you will find the right James Hardie siding to fit your design ideas and dreams.

James Hardie fiber cement has many advantages. The siding is resistant to water damage, mold, mildew, and damage from pests. It even is fire resistant and will not add fuel to a fire. Additionally, you can choose from over 700 colors and a variety of styles and textures.

Best of all, the siding requires almost no maintenance. Furthermore, James Hardie offers amazing warranties. In addition to their 30-year product warranty, they also offer a 15-year finish warranty. That way, you will have peace of mind and will not have to worry about it for a long time.

James Hardie developed the proprietary ColorPlus® Technology. This technology makes the colors more brilliant and last longer. The colors are applied to the siding in a controlled factory setting. This means that the paint is applied evenly and sticks to the material better, enhancing the durability.

Thanks to this technology, the paint is resistant to cracking, chipping, and peeling. It is also resistant to UV damage and fading. The colors are divided into two collections, the Statement Collection™ and the Dream Collection™. That makes it easy to find what you are looking for or browse all available options.

It is not always easy to make sense of a warranty. Here are four things you need to know about James Hardie’s 15-year finish warranty:

Limited Warranty

The warranty for the finish is limited to the purchaser and the first transferee and is limited to 15 years. This warranty has you covered and makes sure that the finish is free from defects. The products need to be used as intended, properly installed and maintained for you to be able to submit a claim.

If those conditions are met the finish will not peel, crack, or chip. In the rare case that it does, James Hardie will cover a percentage of the paint and labor cost to repair or replace the damaged part of the finish. The exact percentage depends on the age of the finish.

Conditions

The warranty is dependent on the right storage of the product before installation and the correct installation. That is why it is best to have it installed by professionals that know the guidelines and can install the siding expertly and correctly.

It is also important to note that any damage or defect has to be reported in writing before repairs are made. Pictures need to show the defect so that James Hardie can investigate and approve the claim. It might be necessary to provide samples and prove that you are a covered person on the warranty.

Exclusions

There are limits and exclusions to the warranty. There might be exclusions to the warranty if the product was stored, handled or installed incorrectly. If the product was altered, repaired, neglected or misused, the warranty will not cover damages.

Additionally, if the material the siding is attached to settles or moves and that causes damage to the finish, that will not be covered by the warranty. Acts of God such as hurricanes, tornados, floods, earthquakes, etc. are also not included in this warranty.

Furthermore, if damage to the finish is caused by lack of proper maintenance that is not included in the warranty. The same applies to damage caused by mold or mildew.

Normal weathering of the siding is to be expected when it is exposed to sunlight and weather. If the finish fades or changes color before this weathering can occur, that is covered by the warranty, as are manufacturing defects.

Care and Maintenance Tips

Maintaining your James Hardie fiber cement siding is not very involved. Just rinse your siding off regularly to remove dirt and dust. If there are dents or cracks you should use a high-quality cement patching compound to fill them.

If the paint is damaged it needs to be removed before repainting. The surface needs to be cleaned and sanded before repainting it. Use good quality acrylic paint to repaint James Hardie siding. Of course, you can always let a contractor maintain the siding for you.
